Activity 1: The Daily Number Warm-Up (Ages 5ā11)
This brief, consistent activity builds number sense ā the intuitive understanding of how numbers work ā which is the single most important foundation for primary school mathematics.
What You Need: Five minutes each morning, a whiteboard or notebook, and a marker or pencil
Steps:
- Every morning before school (or before the home learning session begins), write a “number of the day” on the board. For younger children (ages 5ā7), this might be a number like 14 or 37. For older children (ages 9ā11), it might be a decimal like 3.75 or a fraction like 5/8.
